Legislative leaders file bipartisan resolution to disapprove pay increases
Published: 02/01/12 - 2:41pm Written by eCapitolLegislative leaders from both sides of the aisle filed a resolution Wednesday to reject a proposed 6 percent pay raise for judges that also would increase statewide elected officials’ salaries.
House Joint Resolution 1093 is authored by House Speaker Kris Steele, R-Shawnee; Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa; House Minority Leader Scott Inman, D-Del City; and Senate Minority Leader Sean Burrage, D-Claremore. The resolution disapproves a 6 percent pay increase for judges that was approved by the Judicial Compensation Board.
The move comes four months after the board, which the Legislature created 2004, approved the potential 6 percent increase. The raises will take effect July 1 unless lawmakers pass legislation rejecting them. The pay of 11 statewide elected officials, as well as district attorneys, is tied to the pay of justices of judges. The Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice’s salary, for example, determines how much the governor will be paid.Â
